College Bound Arkansas 2024

Topics covered include:
•  What type of postsecondary education setting best serves the student’s needs and interests?
•  What accommodations and services will the student need to be successful in college?
•  Do the colleges a student is interested in offer these accommodations and services?
•  How does a student access needed support in postsecondary education setting?
•  Students will learn about and practice self-advocacy & self-determination skills.
•  The differences between services in high school & college as it relates to personal conduct and supports and services.
•  Assistive technology that could potentially benefit the student in being successful.
•  The students will participate in a mock college class with an actual college professor.
•  Students will interact with college students who also have disabilities.
•  Students interact with college bound peers from across the state of Arkansas.

There is also a Parent/Professional track:
•  The differences between Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004)
•  Student’s rights and responsibilities
•  Resources for financial aid
•  Role of parent of a college student
•  Parents and professionals will also have the opportunity to interact with college service providers and college students with disabilities.

Deadline for registration is May 3,2024. There are no fees for students and parent(s)/guardian(s) to attend; there is a low cost for professionals.
